Matchmaking Algorithms

After a decade of matchmaking Muay Thai tournaments, we have made a simple algorithm for matching using wins and losses. This has made matches unbiased and dependent primarily on their Rank. The code is written by us, so changes and modifications can be made to address the evolving environment of the sport of Muay Thai. The goal of the algorithms is to make matches fair, and create a competitive environment that challenges the most skilled Nak Muay.

Our Current Matchmaking Algorithms are “Muay Thai Purest” Using only full contact Muay Thai Record & “Comprehensive” Using Full Contact Muay Thai Record , MMA & Point Muay Thai experience, & Height ranking algorithms.

“Not only does the algorithm rank a large number of fighters instantaneously, More importantly it makes the potential match ups fair.”

MTC Basic Formula

This is an example of our Basic Matchmaking Formula. This was a project in one of our classes in university, now its been utilized in over 1000 bouts in the Point Muay Thai circuit since 2017. Other factors have now been added in to address Open and Novice divisions in Full Contact division.

NOVICE DIVISION

As required by CSAC, Muay thai Boxers must have 3 fights completed in order to fight with no Headgear. This will be the threshold between Novice and Open Division. Novice division will be matched using our “Comprehensive Algorithm” that takes MMA, PMT, and Height into account. This way novice division can also present a very competitive environment as they build their “Muay Thai Purest” rank. It is important to note a couple aspects of the Novice division; only full contact Muay Thai & MMA bouts can meet the requirement of 3 fights required to not need headgear to move out of novice division, also, a fighter can be held in the novice division with a win ratio is below 50%.

OPEN DIVISION

Open division will be matched using the “Muay Thai Purest” algorithm. By this point and beyond, not much matters above full contact Muay Thai experience. Although comprehensive rank can be used as a reference to make the best possible matches; especially in new additions to open division.

Situations

Rank Spread: If there are few fighters in a weight class, and there is a large gap between their ranks, We will do our best to find them another opponent.

Point Muay Thai Experience: Having Point Muay Thai experience increases a fighters chance of getting matched, since it will move the fighter higher in the algorithm. This is also practical, since we will know you have had an education in the rules of Muay Thai.

Same Rank: The algorithms default order is by date registered. Therefor the earlier a fighter registers, the more likely he/she will get matched.

Affiliates: Its a goal to have all fighters vs someone outside of their circle, therefor matches could be modified. Its our goal to outsource fighters from far away also.

A 3-0 novice: A fighter can have the potential to be coming out of the novice division with a high Rank if 3-0. In this situation a safeguard would be applied to number one ranked, and the fighter in Third ranked can be matched. The prodigy from novice will need to prove him/her self in open division before facing the number 1 ranked fighter.

PROFESSIONAL MATCHMAKING

Being based out of California, we will look for competition for our California Nak Muay, as well as surrounding states. Fighters who have moved up in the Amateur rankings will be scouted for professional bouts. This is where we will seek a formidable opponent to propel their career.
